Drake was born in the thick of the Magic Era, well into Tempest's reign as self-proclaimed king. His parents taught him to fight, and when he was twenty Drake flew to the village where Wysteria, leader of the Fire Dragons, lived, and told her his plan for attacking, and dethroning Tempest.
Wysteria sent word of Drake's plan to the other leaders, and a few of the more battle-prepared kinds, and they agreed to join the massive alliance. Two years later they flew to Magic's Touch, which was Tempest's base, and invaded. The battle was fought and won, and dragons took over the island.
However, the act of killing Tempest released his magic, and magic needs a host. Magic swarmed into Drake, and as his mind was unprepared to controlling it, and Tempest's magic so strong, it began to overpower him, corrupting him. It bled into his eyes and into his bones. Though Tempest himself never used magic, the potential to use magic was released into his descendants.
